Hi all,

Probably a daft question, but if you dont ask, you never find out.

Will be putting together a new system in Dec time, which will be a Q9550 and 5850 GFX.

Is it possible to set it up so that I can run SETI and F@H at the same time (CPU for SETI and GPU for F@H).

On another side option, will have an 8800GT from my old rig. Is there any way I can throw this into the mix to help, or am I asking for a whole world of hurt by mixing my GPU flavours there.

Cheers all

Folding on GPU and Seti on CPU: Yes no problem. Folding client is separate for GPU and CPU so you just chose the GPU client only. Seti can be set to only use CPU in options and doesn't support ATI yet anyway.

As for question 2. Well you you can have an Ati and Nvidia card in the same box with the Ati card doing GPU and the NVidia doing CUDA, but you have to hack drivers to get it to work. Whether FAH will honour that situation I don't know.

Biffa

many thanks for that.

Was going to put the 8800 in to do SETI, if it does this (have been away from dist comping for a while, so have lost track of what is what)

8800 will do Seti or FAH
5850 will do FAH or Milkyway@Home or a couple of other Boinc projects

On seti the 8800 will give you the best performance, on FAH it will probably edge out a 5850 as well until the new clients are written.

Sorry i can't offer any help, but can i just ask.....whats the attraction of folding and seti?
I get that they help in some small way, but are there any benefits to the end user/helper outerer?

You get a warm feeling of goodness for helping scientific / medical research, a sense of community and competitiveness from the forum, and a minor heart attack when the lecy bill comes in :p

Of course, that all depends on how much hardware you have running for the cause. I find that the amount of hardware someone uses is directly proportional to how mental that person is. As I've noticed, some people around here use a lot of hardware... :p

HEY! I resemble that remark

I reckon i will stick with just the CPU and single ATi GPU. Dont really want shares in Powergen and also dont want to have to buy another, meatier PSU to run two power hungry cards

Based on the funny looks I get when I try to explain to visitors why I have a PC in my shed, that may well be true :p

I've always considered myself to be only slightly unhinged! :D
