Can this ‘Bundle’ be underclocked?

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-043-OE&groupid=43&catid=339&subcat=1675

What I mean is; I’m thinking of buying this bundle to replace my ageing E6700 + 8800GTS, but I’m a bit worried about such a big overclock. I’ve had some bad experiences with my attempts to overclock in the past.

I was wondering if OCUK could supply this bundle but with a more modest overclock. Perhaps 3.2GHz.

Would any one like to comment?

Well if it overclocked by OC you shouldnt really worry they now what there doing and its been tested, but if you wanted you could just give them a call they seem real nice and should help you out no problem i guess.

I'm sure that if you message them before you make your order (webnote would probably the best way) and ask them if they could set the OC a bit lower (personally I would suggest 3.6GHz, as most D0 chips can do this speed with very little voltage and temps are good) and run all the stability tests they normally do for the 4GHz system. I'm certain they will be happy to do this for you.

However, I would imagine it will cost the same as the fully overclocked system.

Its tested and has a warranty if it goes wrong at any time, as long as you don't start playing round with the settings the OCuk has set in the BIOS then you should be good. If you do get any problems then you can just RMA it. Personally I wouldn't worry about it the guys who overclock these bundles will know excatly what to do! Its all good you playing around with settings but they know the chips and what the limit is.

Personally I'd say just keep it at 4.0Ghz as long as you've got decent cooling theres no issue.

bundles are tested to work at those frequencies, and you shouldnt have any issues with them. However if you really are intent on reducing the overclock, then i imagine by calling them up to place the order you can sort it out. The customer service people are very helpful

As everyone else has stated it will be stable so you do not have to worry about that.
Down the line if you don't like the overclock you can just clear the CMOS and you will be back to stock settings (might have to config the boot priority n stuff again though).

Worth the purchase!

They provide a warranty on the overclocked bundles, I see no problem. Indeed I see no reason to pay the premium on the bundle if you are not going to take full advantage of the overclock. 3.6 you can do almost 100% certain yourself on those chips. However if you still feel like 'playing it safe' its a simple matter of either asking them to clock it lower or going into BIOS and merely lowering the FSB until you feel it comfortable.

Thanks for all the replies. I understand that I should leave it as it stands. I was just about to purchase the bundle when I realised it only comes with a 1 year warrantee.

I’m also unsure if it would fit my Antec 900 and that my HyperPower 580 Watts ATX2 power supply will be enough.

My new graphics card is going to be a Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5870 Vapor-X.

For an overclocked bundle OCUK give you a year warranty on the stability of the overclock, which I think is jolly decent of them. Of course you'll also get whatever warranty the manufacturers give for the individual parts too, so I dont see what your problem there is.

I'd be very surprised if that lot doesn't fit in an Antec 900 - they're fairly huge.

580W is plenty - but is HyperPower a decent brand, I'm not sure? If it's cheap poo you could have problems whatever Watts rating it has.
