So I started a thread here asking for help to price up a computer I need to sell for my Mum after my Dad died.
Acme helpfully replied

Can't do price checks outside of the members market :/
So I asked how I could have a moderator move my thread there.
To which Jokester replied
Jokester said:
I'm afraid you don't have access to Member's Market if we did move it.
Which is fair enough if you only allow trusted members to trade.
And my thread was unceremoniously and unhelpfully closed without a word from the moderators on how I can get the help I need.
So how can I get the help I need? Can this forum help me or will I have to go ask in a different forum, to be left with a feeling that this forum is unhelpful, unfriendly and not much use?

It's an issue of trust, of which you don't meet the criteria. It's not that people are being unhelpful and unfriendly. It's not unhelpful or unfriendly to deny your request on the basis of you not getting the info you want.

The bottom line is that you can't buy or sell here until you meet the criteria.

I get that there are scammer scumbags who rip people off and I completely understand and respect OcUK's decision to not let untrusted members trade.
However, I don't want to buy or sell here. I am asking for a value of the PC so that I can get an idea of what my dad's complete flight simulator is worth. I already have a potential buyer for it, and since it includes a TV and sound system, is not something I would list here, anyway.
This is a computer forum and I came here for help getting information about a computer.
I hope someone can help.

If I was running this forum, aside from migrating away from vBulletin 3, I would create an area for people to get help finding the value of computer related stuff. I would guess that quite a few people need help with this kind of thing.

It's to prevent people from using OcUK's forum to flog their own hardware (when OcUK sells their own). Nevertheless, as a nice gesture, OcUK allow loyal forum members to do so in the Member's Market, but only after a certain amount of posts. Unfortunately you don't have enough just now, so I'd advise you to ask in a different forum about this, yes. But there are plenty of peeps here willing to help when it's possible, for a lot of other things.

That's an unavoidable problem with a forum being owned by an organisation with a vested interest. It's not independent.
But if I'm being sent elsewhere, then this forum has failed dismally.

You don't meet the criteria for MM access (something you can aspire to if you decide to stay and contribute like other members). As for price checks, not permitted unless within MM price check section.

Thread closed.
