Can this memory corsair vengance be used in sandybridge

Aye, that will work (seems to be rated at 1.5V - which is ideal for sandy bridge) however as it is a three stick kit (made for use with triple channel systems) then if you install it in a dual channel board (like a P67) it will most likely revert to single channel mode (not good).

Instead, I would suggest either only installing two of the sticks (have 8GB running in dual channel mode) or buy a single 4GB DDR3 stick with the exact same specs (preferably the exact same make and model) and use all four sticks together in 16GB and dual channel mode.

no all it is just bought of members market for my x58 i7 950 which is triple memory...so was sort of thinking if say in the future i buy a sandy bridge can i use the memory...yeah understand the dual channel...2 or 4 sticks ....thanks...guys

Is there any particular reason you want that RAM?

You can buy 8GB of this RAM for £71.99 whhich has the same specification:

Or you could have 2 of the above giving 16GB for less cost than the 12GB kit you linked to.

8GB or 16GB will also work properly in dual channel mode.

+1 to all of this

If you don't already have the 12GB triple channel kit linked to in the OP then please don't buy it if you want specifically to run it in a dual channel P67 motherboard - It just isn't the right stuff to go for and pretty expensive (per GB) to boot.

Ah - ok, then in that case I would strongly suggest you just use two of the modules if you do move to sandy bridge LGA1155 and if you need more than 8GB, find a stick of the same spec and run all four modules together. If you just run the three modules together in a P67 board it will just default to single channel mode (half the memory bandwidth as normal) which you really don't want.

I see.

At least you know how things stand for the future should you decide to go with Sandybridge.

Not really much need though with your current system.

Just overclock the 950 if you haven't already.

lol im a well not a novice but cant get my head around overclocking working out all the settings....and what to change....also was only thinking of sandybridge for the intel 6gbs sata controller...but not gonna be that much more ...might just sit out and wait the ivy bridge i think its called....as your correct surveyor not any better the sandy bridge if atall.

With the Vengeance kits you also have to take into account the height. They are huge. Stack a pair of normal sticks on top of each other and you have the height of the vengeance. This means that a lot of air coolers will not fit with vengeance kits.

This is not accurate with respect to height or cooler fitting. Some air coolers do overlap a single memory slot on "some" dual channel boards. But, only the most obscenely large coolers will prevent using Vengeance modules.

Our FAQ page shows the module heights.
