Hi all

So some of you may remember my other thread about my old man wanting to get a new CPU and MOBO in his build...

Well I'm just wondering if his Motherboard can be overclocked as I know some motherboards can and some can't...

It's the p8z77-v its an older MOBO but he was thinking of just dropping an older K version CPU in and overclocking like a i5-4690k £160ish

Will that CPU go into a 1155 socket?

Thanks

It can.

But being Z77 it's sandybridge/ivybridge chips (2500-3770K)

So would he be better off getting one of the Chips you've mentioned and not the 4690k... He just wants a CPU that's not to expensive that he can just drop in and OC

He would be much better off as the 4690K/4790K/4670K/4770K/6700K etc wont work in the board.

Ahhh I see... i will see what the prices are like for them above. Any of them will do the job for simulator games and Battlefield

You need a socket 1155 i5 2500k, i7 2600k, i7 2700k (all Sandybridge) or i5 3570k, i7 3770k (Ivybridge) for that board if you want to overclock. Haswell cpu's only fit socket 1150 so Z87 or Z97 boards for overclocking.
