The machine I made from OCUK bits in (sigh) 2008 has karked it. It simply could not handle the bantz.

I've come up with the following to replace it. If I can get comparable performance for less money I'd be glad to hear how.

Briefly I'm looking at:

*under a grand
*no windows installation
*no monitor
*help with choosing a decent keyboard as mine is obscene
*a headset that doesn't crackle or feedback

So here's the spec

CPU Intel i5 6500 3.2ghz (£188)

Mobo B-grade asus z170a (£90)

RAM Corsair vengeance 16gb 3200mhz (£79)

GPU MSI GTX 980 (£269)

SSD Samsung 250gb (£86)

PSU EVGA 650w (£79)

Cooler Corsair hydro h60 (£71)

Total £866

Questions:

1. Do I really need 16gb to play Rust?
2. Is 650w enough?
3. Do I have to buy a new case or can I bolt this into my knackered antec nine hundred?
4. Can anyone save me money on a build of similar quality?
5. What's a decent keyboard and headset (I don't want to spend a hundred quid on a keyboard).

Many thanks in advance for your help.

In response to your questions:

1. 16gb ram isn't required but definitely a good idea for the future.
2. 650w is plenty, single GPU on a good 500w+ PSU is fine, but emphasis on the good :) 80+ gold is what I would aim for, as I specced below.
3. Your Antec 900 is still fine, I had one before downsizing and it served me well!
4. See spec below.
5. See spec below, I have the keyboard and its really nice, great deal on it at the moment too! I havn't used the headset but its popular and very good.

If you feel like it you can get a good overclock out of the 6600K with the cooler I specced, aim for 4.4ghz, anything over is a bonus :D The 980Ti is on offer and won't hang about, awesome performance for the price! You could also go down the 1070 route for around the same performance but around £40 more, but it is the latest generation so has a few other benefits.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £994.87
(includes shipping: £0.00)

IMO you won't need that cooler if you're not going to be overclocking, I'd buy a cheaper air cooler for now and put the money towards something else. Headset wise most people will probably recommend proper headphones and a clip on mic, there's always some sort of compromise to be made with most headsets especially cheaper ones, that said the HyperX ones are actually not bad at all for the price. Keyboard is more of a personal thing, personally I'd go for a Corsair Strafe or one of the cheaper Ducky keyboards if you don't want to spend £100. There's also the K95 on sale here but it has the horrible tramp stamp logo which is disgusting.
