Can u play non DVD's (xvids etc) on 360 from disc?

Anyone knoe if you can do this? i have transcode 360 wanted to encode a film burn it and play it back. I know i should use MCE but my MCE rig is down and fancied an alternative
 
lol well if i wanted to go out and mod my beloved 360 i would but i have a bad track record there and have resorted to more legal methods (ie money lol)

Cheers anyway, only asked cos i have a whole pile of xvids for my mce oh well cest la vie i geuss

Edit - ignore, didn't read the OP correctly :o

You can only watch avis's etc, if they are converted to a proper DVD format.

You can convert a AVI to DVD and it plays fine on your 360.. just make sure you use good quality discs.. I updated my portfolio DVD the other day and tested it on my 360 and its fine.

know a good prog for this? Dont mind paying commercial if necessary, tried dvd-santa but got tons of synch issues

WinAvi or svcd2dvdmpg are both ideal and very simple to use :)

If you use the FilmFactory it has a good mpeg encoder.. and then you need somthing to convert the files to DVD.. I use the TmpegEnc suite.. its not the simplest but you get the best results i find.
