Can Under Volting Hardware do Damage?

Hi, I've just lower my RAM voltage from 2.8 to 2.6, when I did this I couldn't boot back up. With no display on the monitor and kept getting a POST beep constantly.

I reset my CMOS and that didn't help either, took some of my RAM out of my board and I got back on..

Is it possible to cause damage to components by under volting? I havn't ran any test's on the RAM yet.

Certainly not the CPU - Intel cut the voltage back as part of their speedstep system. I can't see how you could damage RAM either.

I wounder what i've done then

I'm positive I only changed the RAM voltage, I'll try and stick the rest of my RAM back in and see if I can boot it back up.

1 of the stick's has failed *sigh*

That's 2 crucial sticks in 4 months.

At least I had a few spare stick's, so they're in now.

Just a faulty RAM, and it faulted right when i changed an option so I thought might have been my bad heh.

I'm under the impression that the failure rate with those sticks is pretty high.

They had a nightmare with the old DDR PC4000 1Gb sticks. Something like an 85%+ failure rate on the first batch or something. Current Ballistix are as good as, or possibly better, than anything else.

OMG I can't belive this, Just had another stick fail on me while I was browsing the net.

That's my second ballistix failure in 2 days, wicked.

I'm down to 1GB now, wounder how long i've got befo.... * PC goes off *

lol

Can I get my money back instead of a replacement?

Because I RMA'ed the last pair that broke, and the new ones they sent me have broke. So i'd rather the money back and put it towards a new system.

They are the PC4000 Mr. Don :p

Yup no surprise really, I got through a fair share of DDR Ballistix. You'll have to contact who you purchased them from for a refund I think, Crucial probably won't give you a refund. You'll have to convince them that simply replacing the modules will be insufficient and that they're unfit for purpose
