Can users try this monitor Black test link?

Reason i ask is that i read a comment from a reddit user that claimed to work in Monitor support and said that the vast majority of TN panels see the #1 & 2 tiles on default settings and the VA,IPS mostly tend to see the #3 & 4 tiles so i thought it would be interesting to see if this is true amongst us on OCUK.

Though it's rather subjective as some people run auto dynamic contrast and some people plainly don't care if they have over the top brightness, contrast and gamma settings .. :)

factory settings other than brightness turned down to 10.

Geeeeeez , if you had to turn it down that low i can only imagine you needed welding googles when you first turned it on.

A couple of years back a guy posted a video about a ridiculously bright Dell that he had and when he turned it down it started to squeal and when he got below 40% it changed to a buzz and sounded like a sex toy. :)

If calibration is out, it will affect when you see in that test irrespective of the panel type; It has everything to do with calibration.

Which has what to do with post 8 and a Monitor Engineer comments on the average factory default settings which is why the entire thread was started?

As said even default settings are subjective and it has nothing to do with end user calibration , just a generalization of his observations of panel types.

What number are we actually looking for?

If you calibrate the monitor yourself then tile 1 should just about be barley discernible with comfortable gamma and contrast settings.

Though Monitors made in the last couple of years such as HDR have really aggressive contrast and gamma enabled as their factory default that will change the levels automatically on dark scenes regardless of your own settings.
