Hi

I have a Acer 22" which only has a vga input, no DVI. I have always used the vga port and there has never been a problem, but now I have just bought a gfx card with two DVI ports and no VGA so I was forced to use the DVI-VGA adaptor. However even with this adaptor the monitor refuses to display anything and just stays on standby. This leads me to believe that VGA only monitors cannot display from DVI gfx cards even with an adaptor? Can anyone confirm before I splash out on a new monitor!

With the correct adapter you should be able to connect a vga monitor to a DVI port. If you couldn't you wouldn't be able to connect a CRT display.

Wikipedia is worth a look for an explanation of the various types of DVI connector and their capabilities.
