Can we explore the universe in VR ?

Saw this thread and started wondering if anyone knows of a good program/game that allows you to view the known galaxy / universe in VR?
I've always been captivated by the thought of viewing things from a different perspective.
There's Titans Of Space, not sure if it lets you explore the whole Universe but it definitely does our solar system.

Universe Sandbox https://universesandbox.com/ also works in VR.. and that allows you to not only look.. but play.. (It's not the whole universe :) )

Have you played Elite?

Elite Dangerous is a 1:1 recreation of the milky way, even better is you can literally play it as an explorer there will be some inevitable fights with pirates even in solo mode but break the tedium

I think I have Elite from the Epic Games weekly giveaway. I had no idea it modelled the milky way, thoguht it was procedurally generated... I'll take a look-see
cheers !

the planets and stars are procedurally generated but as far as I know the locations and formations are based on real data, so for example you can visit known nebulae and astronomical objects like the SgrA* black hole at the centre of the galaxy.

just be warned though that the latest expansion Odyssey has a big performance hit so you might want to stick with the legacy mode for VR depending on your specs

This looks like it’s exactly the thing I was looking for in my original post… it’s a certain purchase if it works nice with VR
Use of my index controllers were a bit fiddly and i preferred a joystick in the end - kind of flying round like a spaceship. Visually had no problems in vr

Space Engine is incredible, but it really should come with a total perspective vortex warning. Be ready to feel overwhelming wonder and awe, but also dread.
