Can windows read/mount an EXT2/3 drive from a NAS?

If i was to pull one of the drives out my NAS box can i pop it in a usb enclosure and directly connect it to my win XP or Win 7 machines to copy off the data??

The only reason I wish to do this is the transfer speed over the network is incredibly slow and we wish to move about 100gb of photos without waiting a week!!!

It's possible, but Windows won't read ext2/3/4 filesystems natively, so you'll something like this: http://sourceforge.net/projects/ext2read/

Even if you do get an ext# driver for Windows you still may have issues ... I know my old QNAP box used a "tweaked" ext# format on the drives which had issues even getting to read properly on a Linux box with all the native tools.
