I want to play with my brother on CSS but he doesn't have a steam account. Can you buy CSS on its own?

Unless you're only interested in playing CSS you could play Wolfenstein Enemy Territory against him, brilliant WW2 based FPS game and its free.
Online direct from Steam you can get CS:S alone for $20 - probably not really a good deal unless you're absolutely sure you just want to play that one game. In particular, bear in mind that you won't be able to access any of the HL2 mods without having bought HL2 itself.

I'd reccomend against buying the game singally off steam and going into a high street shop or ordering the game from the internet, you get a much better deal that way paying roughly the same amount of money but getting 3 or 4 games rather than one for the same price.

Nope, seems to be $19.95 on Steam. Thing is, with tax, that works out to be ~ £13-16, and when you can buy CS:S retail for <£15, it's kind of a waste of money, as the retail version comes with HL2: DM and DoD: Source.
Is your brother in the same house? Do you want to play offline or online with him? If you don't want to play online, just on a LAN, then you can just log onto your Steam account onto his PC, but if online, then it wont let you play on the same sever at the same time.triggerthat said:
