So I picked one of the boards up online as it was cheap and 1150 socket(got a pentium G waiting to used) and it didn't come with a cooler which isn't a suprise, but it does have a bracket for screw types. Thing is I removed that to fit a stock intel Cooler and it doesn't tighten up nor can you push on the clips, so it looks like I need to get a more suitable cooler.

Can you get aftermarket ones or would it need the original cooler? It's got the pentium fitted, but if all works well then I will look at quads.

Does a cooler with socket 2011 mountings fit?
Would be worth to test

Thanks for reply.

I don't have any other coolers at hand, well the only other I got is an old tuniq (120 I think) I picked up yesterday, it was mounted to a 939 board, but the bracket fits a 775(well it will if I fide suitable screws to mount it.

I have no problem buying the original cooler if I have to, just wasn't hoping to need a cooler at all as I had everything bar the motherboard ready, but I will also try your suggestion, sure I could find something cheap enough.

I've used M3 x 6 + 6 brass standoffs in the past. They can be very handy when you're missing a cooler backplate but you have the front bracket/s. You can attach as many of them together as you like, to get a firm connection to the back of the motherboard (sometimes a spacer or two is needed for that extra firmness depending on motherboard thickness) and to get the right height.
