Can you buy decent phone cable?

Hi,

Im looking for a quality phone cable extension. From what Ive seen they all seem to look and be the same. Cheap white cables. Is there any decent phone cable extensions or are they all the same?

Braid speaker cable together and wrap it in the heat shrink colour of your choice.

Think there's only the cheap white cable option.

True. It's just copper wrapped in plastic as far as I can tell. It's not like networking cable that comes in a few forms.

Use Cat5 cable

Cheaper and better .

Why do you need good quality phone cable ? The signal sent down it is terrible, and not designed to be particularly clean (as in shielded).

I cant think why you would need one, but for why not make your own with Cat5 and an RJ11 crimper.

That is because that is what phonecables are. Cheap white cables.

If by quality you mean price, then I'm sure any one of your favourite high street electrical retailers will be glad to charge £20 for a 50p bit of wire.

Seriously, as has been suggested cat5e is probably what you are looking for. By whatever fixtures/terminations you need and make it yourself.

cat6 is overkill for telephony, cat5 is fine.

Nope 5e is certified to gigabit speeds

a quality cat5e will do gigabit with ease, Cat 6 is better but in domestic terms its overkill.

I think even cat 5 is overkill. Cat3 is designed for the job so use it.

for the phone? agreed but cat5 is probably no more expensive and is more felxible (single twisted pair leave no options for exansion without adding cable
