Hi guys

My sister has asked me too put together a new PC for her.

I want it to be of a fairly good spec that is gonna last her for some time without the need to upgrade it.

The only parts of her existing pc which will be usable are the monitor, k/b, mouse and speakers.

I have priced up 2 rigs, one based on Intel the other on AMD.

She has 2 boys and a husband all of whom enjoy playing driving games.

Her current pc literally has loads of em installed on it.

The boys have laptops which they play several games on but I'm sure they would play on the main machine if it was of a good gaming standard.

The price is the maximum which she would be prepared to go, infact probably a bit less if it can be done

The questions are:-

will these bits go together well

What would you change if anything

Which build is "better"

I'd drop the modular PSU for a VX550, spend the difference on a 3rd party CPU cooler.
Buy a Pioneer optical drive instead of the LG, more reliable in my experience.
Apart from that both specs are good, but I'd go for the AMD rig simply because I've owned intel rigs for 4 years now & I fancy a change. :cool:

I'm not building it for you ;):D

The VX550 isnt modular from what I can see.

Also it isnt gonna be overclocked, it'll just run at stock, so I doubt it'll need a 3rd party cpu cooler
Too much aggro to look after from afar if you know what I mean

Noted on the Pioneer drive though

TBH I just selected a random optical drive as they are similarly priced
 
I had considered the OCZ ModXStream 600w but settled on the Corsair because of its 7 year warrenty and power from 1 rail.

However I don't really know if power from split rails is any less effective?

Also the motherboard in the AMD build does symmetrical Crossfire at PCI-E 2.0 8X/8X whereas the one in the Intel build does asymmetrical Crossfire at PCI-E 2.0 16X/4X.

The AMD and Intel motherboards you have chosen both can run a pair of graphics card in a Crossfire configuration. However the Intel motherbpards cannot run both slots at the same speed and this can cause issues.

Thats good to know should a future upgrade include an extra gfx card
