Ok so 2 weeks ago I bought this from OCuk. Great service and delivery

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 GO 2.40GHz Quad Core CPU Overclocked too a minimum of 3.30GHz and beyond. (8/9 x 400MHz - 1600MHz FSB)

- Antec NINE HUNDRED Gamers ATX Case
- OCZ 600W Next Generation Power Supply

I'm also running Vista Home Premium and a 22" monitor

But I just want to check the performance levels with any of you guys with a similar spec PC, I would have upgraded my old one but it was so out of date this really was the easier option (especially with limited time with a 9 week old baby in the house)

Bioshock plays on max settings but some serious slowdown with more than two enemies, this is clouded however by the reports I have seen on the Bioshock forums from a lot of people who have reported issues.

Crysis runs well on auto detected medium settings, but I mean Medium? Shouldn't it be high?

World In Conflict demo - The benchmark on this ran give Max 50fps, min 3 fps, average 16 fps AT 1400 X 900, and at 1024 x 768 i only got 23 fps average. This was awful and ran like a dog with its legs shot off.

Fianlly I was getting 60fps from HL2 EP2 but hey thats a 3 year old engine.

I'm just about to try Stalker again so we'll see how that goes, and I'm also wondering if I should run a benchmark (3dmark?) to compare my system to a similar spec machine. If so what benchmark should I run?

I mean its a quality built machine but have I underspecced, or is it a consequence of Vista running DX10 or should I contact OC uk tech support?

Or maybe I was just expecting too much for £1000 :(

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

with an 8800GTS, medium is about the best you'll get from crysis, especially since its only the 320mb version. The GTS is showing its age now that the 8800GT is out. Basically the spec is fine, except your graphics card, which is really the bottleneck of the whole system. Upgrade that and you'll be fine.

Hi & Welcome to OcUK

Best thing to do is Download 3D mark 06 & bench your system. Then use the compare option once you have the results.

thanks for the warm welcome and the quick replies :)

Ahh bugger thought it was a good deal. Fooled by an 'S' who would have thought it. Ahh well budget is spent I'll just have to live with it I guess.

Unfoprtunately due to family commitments not been following the OC scene closely enough obviously.

I will benchmark with 3dMark 06 though and have a look.

My main worry is that there was a problem with the machine, but if it is the GC then I may wait until series 9 cards are out. Bioshock is playable after all as is Crysis I was just disappointed with WIC. Unless I can return a barely used Card to OCUK in return for an upgrade but i think i've misssed the 7 day window for returning stuff?

The world in conflict trouble doesn't surprise me, judging by benchmarks I've seen the GTS320 struggles with it.

I dunno about the other games cos I've never tried them, but your world in conflict results seems strange. Mine runs at 1680 x 1050 with most settings on high without any problems, and I only have dual core, and a stupidly outdated graphics card (I've clocked the nuts off it, but still...). I dunno if the demo runs worse than the full game

to be fair, the card isnt bad by any means, it just doesnt do your system any justice. You really need something like an 8800GT or if you hold out, get the new revised 8800GTS when it comes out later this month.

You will still be able to run Gears of War, UT3, Bioshock etc at 1400x900 with perfectly playable framerates. (Gears of War runs flawlessly on my x1950Pro at 1360x768)

but still I'm am disappointed after spending so much money on a new system to find the GC isn't up to scratch.

I also reckon stalker doesn't run as well either, i was on setting lower than my old set up :(

Sell your GTS Pete on the bay for £140-150 and buy a GT. So an extra £20 will get you a GT (GT'S are about £160 - £180). Thats what I've done, couldn't be happier with the card, its very close to GTX speeds.

Don't put up with a GTS if your not happy with it, its holding your system back really.

It's more that there have suddenly been a rash of games that trash graphics cards. The spec you got for the price would have been very good (for pre-made systems), OcUK always are. It would have been cheaper to build it yourself, but that's a whole other debate.

Unfortunately Fini I had to balance up the time to build it, sort any issues and research the components, versus buying a premade system. With a new baby in the house it was an easy choice and a lot of people recommended OC uk to me, hence the purchase. I should have at least had a closer look at the GC.

Ahh well you live and learn.

On the upside I am selling the wifes DS (It was a poor present I admit it), in return for flowers and perfume and the change goes towards a new graphics card.

So a GTX is a bit of a waste of money then being significantly more expensive than a GT for not much more performance?

I feel like a bit of a twonk as I really gave up following the PC scene when I started playing WOW, and due to family issues never really got back into it.

ATM, I'd say so, yes.

I bought the Ultima GTX system, but on the basis that I knew I had a good base system to last me a wee while and knowing that the only short term upgrade I'd need to do would be graphics, probably at some point next year.

That was my thinking exactly hence going for the quad core, I just had to scrimp on something to be within budget, unfortunately I now realise it was the card.

Will i really notice the difference between the 320mb GTS and say a 512mb GT tho?

The GT averages a performance boost of ~20% on average, which isnt bad.
Try dual booting with xp if you can, im finding i get an average of 30fps on my 320gts with all settings set to high which aint bad at all. Have overclocked the bejesus outa it though.

which game is that on David?

I might try overclocking it and if it is acceptable then buy a new card next year. Doesn't explain why Stalker runs so poorly tho :(

oh my appologies, thats in Crysis. Look on the crysis demo thread in PC games too, theres a few files you can download to increase performance.
Updated all the drivers etc ? I would have thought itd run stalker ok.

well yes All the drivers are up to date, Stalker has the latest patch 1.0.0.4, but seems to glitch as the hard drive works (Windows Vista has indexing and Aero turned off)
