Can you ever be too old?

Oh, HELL NO!! :D

[EDIT]Unless it includes Thomas.... ;)

But HO gauge, N guage, etc - no way.

Kudos if it is 1/4 scale and powered by steam.

Heh, look at it this way:

How many dads actually buy a train set for thier kids? It may say it's for the kids on the Xmas tag on the wrapping, but it's really for the dads.

Trust me, I'm a dad!! ;)

I think she's got me the Flying Scotmans.. she dropped or slipped a comment earlier and a package does match the description and estimated weight...

Ooooh, PICS!!! (when you get it set up, of course).

I would like to set up a large Scalextric track somewhere, I remember messing about with one ages ago; it was a great toy, and now you can get so many cars and different track pieces it is unbelievable. Also, I would like to change motors, or get something to increase power in the cars and make a drag strip. :p

Just dont go train spotting...

Iu saw one of them the other day. Lol he was taking a pic of this old feight train, carrying petrol for the Murco depot. I had to laugh...

Steam trains i can just about understand, pictures of modern crappy trains WTF

That reminds me.
I built a new PC for a client this week, and as part of the data transfer, he wanted his Hornby virtual Railway CD installed on the new system! :p

I mean, if your going to build train sets, at least do it for real and not pretend on a PC!

this is so true.

got a train set as a kid. of course, dad selected everything and built it, and... well kind of operated it.

train was the 'GNER silver fox'. don't know much about trains but it was a real cool looking little thing. like a twin 'flying scotsman' but in silver , had a bunch of GNER passenger carriages it tugged along.

got to admit, something a bit special about having that thing set up back then. can still smell the little electric engine and remember how nervous i was using the hornby controller.

anyway, i digress. point it, it was really his ;)

Coincidentally I was in a model shop today looking at airfix kits (albeit not many airfix kits per sé);) and my mate and I looked at train sets reliving the old days.

I would love a train set yet often thought I was too old. When I move out of this place I'll get a load again, but £120+ for some trains  Can't wait to have kids :D

NO WAI!

One of my best mates' Dad owns a massive, and I mean MASSIVE quantity of Z gauge track and bits. He reckons he has a few hundred carriages/powered engines/etc, some of them are really rare and worth a few hundred alone. He has more than most shops would ever stock (esp over here).

Him and a friend of his have made a mountainous diorama with stations, small towns and the like on multi-levels and TBH it's awesome when running. About £30-£40K's worth though

A train set was something I always wanted when I was a nipper, an Intercity 125 to be specific. I never got one though :(
