Can somebody with the knowledge please tell me if it is possible to have SLI if you have a card fitted with an aftermarket cooler.

I've seen a couple of 790i board on the bay today and was wondering if it was possible or if I would have to re-attach the stock.

depends on the distance between the two slots on the board.

can you name the make and model of board?

most of the time no, the after market coolers are twice the thickness of the standard cooler.

But it does depend if the cooler is covering your other x16 pci, have a look inside

Yes, a third one right at the bottom, and I've dug out an SLI bridge, they're longer than I thought, would easily stretch.

I think a 2nd card would have to be stock cooler though.

The 790i reference boards from the likes of xfx, evga are identical in design/layout, asus had their own take on it, as they did with 6/780i.

you most prob could manage with one vf300f, two if the distance between the psu is great enough.

imo, I've installed the vf3000f and it is great, temps went down 20C+.

The cons are you lose the auto fan control and the gigabyte mobo can't supply good power so I've got it hooked to the psu direct. This means I've got the external fan speed controller stuck to the top of my case.

yeah ive got the fan controller on the back of the case. some games struggle at certain times thats all, i know im not cpu bottlenecked, so its either sli or go for a 580.
