Had the screen 2 weeks and i have 1 stuck pixel quite near the centre, its doing my head in, i thought i could live with it but id rather not. Where do i stand? Can i request a swap out or is it a waste of time.

Tell them it runs fine for 3 or so hours then shuts down and the only way to restart it is to disconnect from the mains for 30 mins then its fine again for about another 3 hours etc, this suggests a faulty PSU and will get you a replacement normally.

As it takes at least 3 hours for the fault to appear they can hardly have an engineer visit and wait 3 hours for the fault to occur ;)

Backlight bleed is just when you look at a complete black screen (especially in a dark room) and it's not even, some patches are lighter than the rest, especially around the edges. Say the stand is a bit wobbly or that it isn't level (a common complaint with that stand).

Would they not take it away, test it, and find it had 1 dead pixel and was otherwise fine and then do you for it?

I'm sure they do test them because they need to know what to replace in it, since it'll become a refurb they send out to someone else. Whether they would be bothered enough to do anything about it, I can't see it myself, but it's probably better not to take the risk.

So the concensus is they wont swap it for one stuck pixel, i have to perhaps tell a few fibbs to get it swapped. I think the backlight bleed is a possibility to say, as its subjective to your eyes. The faulty psu could be pushing it a bit.

I think their policy is 5 subpixels or 2 adjacent subpixels, or 1 entirely dead or white whole pixel. Even if you don't feel comfortable fibbing it's still probably worth phoning them, you may get lucky. Dell do seem to want to keep their customers happy, and if you explain how annoying it is - you never know. The pixel being near the centre of your screen should help your case too.

No I got my original 2405 swapped when it developed a vertical line down the screen, they sent a refurb 2405 out.

So about 2 months later I told them that it was failing after 3 hours of use and would they please replace it, they agreed and when I asked if due to the fact that it would be my 3rd monitor, would they send a new one they agreed and although I had to wait a couple of weeks, sent me a shiney new 2407 ~:D

It then took them another couple of months to collect the 'faulty' one :D

best thing is to make something up.. backlight or otherwise...

i said i had a dark smudge like mark on the indside of mine to get mine replaced..

another one would be the USB is shorting out the pc...
