My SyncMaster 226BW has now succumbed to the flickering screen of death after 3 years of good service.

As it has one of the original samsung panels, I will be swapping out the capacitors in the power supply to bring it back to life

In the meantime, will probably go with a P2270HD with built in freeview tuner as every shop seems to have these piled to the ceiling, so good chance of picking one of these up in the sales.

But this got me thinking, why not go with a freeview High Def tuner ? Problem is that I cant see to find a monitor with one of these built in, only the standard ones.

Any recommendations ?

thanks,
Em Kay

The only things i know of with a freeview HD tuner in them (DVB-T2) are the latest panasonic plasma panels that have Freevew, Freeview HD and Freesat HD all built in.
I wasnt aware that monitors were coming with tuners built in these days, thought htey wanted to keep them separate so that buying a monitor didn't automatically make you liable for the TV License (tax)

They are hybrid monitor/TV 'combos' such as the Samsung 'HD' series that adds a DVB-T tuner to an existing monitor in the range. Unfortunately Freeview HD is a seperate standard and requires a dedicated 'box' or currently prohibitively expensive tuner (such as those built into some higher end TVs). I'm sure hybrid monitors with built in Freeview HD will come of age at some point but not just at the moment.
