can you get Dell Laptops without a OS?

As far as i'm aware, you can decline the OS (not agree to some licence, cant remember what its called) the first time you boot up windows, contact dell, and get a refund.

They do have linux options tho, i've never checked it out before so dont know if they are any cheaper.

is that an option on the site then? I am having issues deciding on the xps 13 or the studio 15. i think i may be able to live with the 13inch screen given how much more portable they seem, after a look at both in purple shirt land

It is indeed.

The base models start with slightly different spec...

The linux has a starting spec of 1024MB memory compared to the Vista versions 2048MB.

Although the Linux starts with 160GB Hard drive compared to the VISTA's 120GB.

Just do what I did and buy the laptop, then when it arrives phone them up and say you've declined the vista license and ask them to refund you the cost of it. I got £70 off mine.

I asked for no OS when I ordered my Vostro. Mr Mustafa Khan couldn't do that, so instead I got Vista Home basic, and a carry case.

no doubt they have a very lucrative deal with micro$haft with pre-installing Vista. Poor Mr Mustafa Khan probably had no choice.

We buy Dell laptops without an OS - well the Precisions we buy.
We have a Microsoft OVS license agreement and it makes more sense for us to put Windows on a laptop under that agreement than paying Dell.
We do however buy through an account manager and not via the website.

The only Dell systems you can get with XP are the Latitude ones and Precisions.

Currently, on all new laptops aside from the two mentioned above, Dell do not have, and have not written XP drivers for the systems, hence why XP is not an option. There have been numerous attempts by us in work to force XP on to a system without XP drivers and it doesn't work very well, to say the least!

the deal with ms is lucrative
as is the inclusion of all the bloatware that ships preinstalled on a dell machine

can they find out if you say that, but you actually do agree to it? So can you get £70 for free? do they have a way of checking?
