I know google release it for their nexus devices but what abouy other devices? And I mean completely stock with no bloatware or manufacturer software at all. I'd be putting it on a HTC One M8 and I'd like 4.4.4 preferably...

Take a look on the xda-developers android development page for your device. You'll probably find an appropriate stock like custom rom for your device to be flashed through a custom recovery such as TWRP or CWM.

Depends what you mean by stock. Stock usually refers to the original ROM for the phone (eg, for HTC phones it will be HTC Sense). But if you mean Google Android then you will need to go custom ROM. Those with GPe ROMs are lucky enough to be pretty stable and good performance, while other phones will need to be based off AOSP and initially contains a few bugs due to not having access to closed source stuff.

Thread states Lollipop but the link also provides the latest Kitkat GPe ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2706441

I switched from stock to gpe and now to viper on m8, vipers essentially sense without bloatware and lots of customisable tweaks built in.

Best of both worlds for me as I prefer sense to vanilla android in certain key areas.

Thanks very much for the link! I already rooted my phone, do I need to get the unrooted version of 4.4.4 Google Play edition?

Rooting is on a per ROM basis, so if you flash a new ROM it will either remove or offer root.

Just to make sure, rooting and bootloader unlocking/S-OFF are different things. Rooting just gives you admin rights to the ROM, while unlocking/S-OFF allows you to flash custom software (ROM, firmware, recovery, etc).

So in other words, you're free to flash either the rooted or non-rooted version, all depends if you want root.

Thanks for clearing that up. I'm currently unlocked and rooted by tbh I don't ever use my root access so I might as well go unrooted.
