Hey folks!

I have the EVGA P55 *** board, which has 4 DDR3 slots.

Unfortunately, slot 1 is pretty much unusable due to the heatsink I have, but just wondered, could I use a triple channel ddr3 kit? To get 6gb?

As I am using a 64 bit Windows7 install, i'd like to have more than 4GB.

Either that or change the heatsink I guess...

You can run 3 x 2 GB DDR3 in a P55. However, it will only run in single channel mode. To run it in Dual channel mode, you will have to make do with 2 x 2GB. Alternatively, you could either get a different heatsink (eg the corsair h50 will not obstruct any RAM slots), use 4GB per stick DDR3 RAM or settle with the inferior performance of single channel mode.

Triple channel mode is not available on P55 boards, only X58 systems.

Yes you can run it using 3 sticks
It will be operating in Flex mode
I tried this myself a while ago , when my last mobo liked 2 stick or 3 BUT would not run 4

When I benched the memory write / copy using everest it ran slightly slower
in Flex mode , so I ended just using 2 for speed.
