Hello Sound City,

I have some pretty nice Sony speakers from a Hi-Fi from 2003, so its around 10 years old.

My PC speakers went bust, so instead of buying new ones, ive wondered if i can use my old Hi-Fi speakers instead, no doubt i will need an adapter of some sort, but i dont know what the speaker connectors are called in the first place.

Any idea if its possible to connect these to my pc? if so..what adapter do i need. Thanks!

Oh, any idea on what amp i would need?

or a tutorial on how what to do/buy to make it work with my pc :)

From what I can see, if you take off the plastic connector you'll have bare speaker wires. In order to use the speakers with anything, you'll need an amp, the central CD player/tape deck etc that the speakers came with will have had one inside it.

Any stereo amplifier that matches the impedance of the speakers will do but IMO it's probably less hassle to just buy some PC speakers unless those are really good or you're on a very tight budget.

As for which amplifier to get, I'd look on whathifi and go from there. You may end up seeing why I think it's more hassle!
