Hi I play Warhammer Online quite a lot. Latley the servers have been plauged by lag, crashes etc. The game is still finding its feet and crashes etc are pretty much guaranteed during primetime. I dont really mind now as I love the game.

What was weird was when my connection to the server just went *HURK DEAD* and I couldn't reconnect for ages. It wasnt anyway near primetime and when there are large ammounts of people fighting you will generally know about it.

I'm wondering is my broadband to blame too? Its supposed to be 7 meg line which sounds all well and good, usually its fine but there are times when it has been rubbish due to contention etc and is no where near whats being payed for it.

The next time I get disconnected from the server I would like to run a connection diagnostic tool (or whatever they are called) and find out the speed that I'm actually getting.

Just posting to ask does anybody here know of any good ones?

Thanks :)

In terms of the DSL dropping out it could be the server, the line or even someone using the phone if its the wrong type of phone. Also depends on the cable architecture within your house. from the BT port does it go straight to a micro filter and then to the router? it is on an extension lead? ect

edit: there is even an adapter that BT have bought out that plugs into the master socket that can reduce internal (ie your house) noise on the line which can help the speed/reliablilty

Heya thanks for the reply. Actually living in Ireland my isp is Eircom, you probably havent heard of them.

My router is directly connected to my my computer via an ethernet cable. As for noise I'm not sure, the cable hangs down a bit behind the desk, and is rather close to the main extension lead (which has 10 sockets all in use). Would it be agood idea to straighten it up and keep it away from as much electronics as possble?

Thanks for the link too btw apreciate it :)

Now if only college would end so I could get home and check my connection :(

It's not the connection between the router and your machines or to the power you're interested in but rather between the router and the telephone socket. Ideally you want the router connected to the master socket with any extensions filtered.
