I'm looking for a pc base that alllows me to swap hard drives easily...for example, you have a caddy around the hdd and it slips into the desktop quite easily. what are these called?
They are called "Hot Swappable Enabled" I believe. A lot of cases support this now, as in you just snap rails on the hard drive and slide them in (Assuming you have set up the back of the bay with a power/data connector) if that is an option, or just plug them in then slide.
Some cases have 2.5" bays on top for ultra hot swappable drives (I would suspect aimed at SSD although I'm sure HDD will be compatible)

....but it would just be the case i want to slide in my hdd without having to connect it all the time when swapping.have a look at the Coolermaster 690 II Advance case - it's got a "hot swap" connector right at the top of the case
