Right, I'm assembling a new build and my sticking point so far is the psu.

I'm after a 650 w one for below £100 with flat or ribbon cables, preferably modular but that's not a deal breaker. I am leaning towards an Antec or a Seasonic due to their reputation.

The rest of my build will be:

i5 4670k
ASRock z87 extreme 4
Gtx 780 (not likely to sli in future)
16gb ram
1sdd 1hdd

Case is a Silvertsone Temjin TJ08E

Any help greatly appreciated,

Andrew

It appears the Silverstone does as well, have a look just to be sure anyway.

Well theoretically 750w should last longer, I know you don't plan to SLI and what have you but you never know :p You said £100 so I thought hey let's not maximise your budget ;) I guess it's up to you on what wattage you go with

I've got the 650w Seasonic G-Series. It's a quality piece of kit. Still, can't argue with a 10 year warranty ^^^

Nice cheers guys. Edging towards the G series gold rated one. Much difference between bronze/gold rating in real life?

Ninja edit: worth getting the 750w over 650w for the sake of a tenner?

Definitely mate unless your life hangs in the balance with that £10?

I think you would be making the right decision going with the Seasonic gold. As for real term differences I don't think you would notice anything but there should be a difference in terms of efficiency and maybe longetivity

The G series does indeed have flat ribbon cables but only on the modular cables. The hardwired 24 pin, 8 pin and pci-e lead are all normal sleeved cables. It's a cracking psu and is really quiet.

If i was buying now though i would be looking at the EVGA G2 750w. A 750w fully modular psu for £89.99 and a huge 10 year warranty just has to be seriously considered.

Are any of the seasonic ones fully modular? edit: just seen the x series

Also, I'm building in a Silverstone TJ08E, cable length isn't an issue but is it worth getting extension cables so should there be an issue with the psu I could just unhook it from those?

The M12II Evo is fully modular, so if you don't want to spend all your budget then it would be a good choice. It uses the same fan as the 'G' series.

The 'X' series uses a better fan (Sanyo Denki) and has a slightly longer warranty (7 years rather than 5), but obviously costs more.

You shouldn't have any issues with cable length in a matx case, so I don't think you would need extension cables.

Gone with the x series. Always wanted a seasonic so paid a bit extra.

Not worried so much about cable length, just the ease of unhooking everything should the psu need to be replaced (still have dark memories of the 2 corsair units I ahd that went bang).
