Can you manually install Android 2.2 on the HTC Desire now?

Just wondering will it work for the desire? I bought mine sim free and unlocked. Read that it will be released at the end of June anyway, but...i want it now!

Yes you can.

Root it and flash the 2.2 ROM.

Neither of the two ROMs are complete yet though, so it might be worth waiting another week. Read the last 25ish pages of the HTC Desire thread for more info

The link I posted states that phone does not need to be rooted. But I will read the other thread.

The link you posted is for the Google Nexus One, not the HTC Desire.

The only way to get Android 2.2 working on the Desire now is through a ROM flash. Even then its doesnt function 100%, bluetooth/camera either dont work or have issues.

Official Android 2.2 for the Desire won't be out for a month or so atleast.

As MadMossy said, the Nexus One is VERY different from the Desire from a developers perspective.

Rooting and such poses no risk anymore due to the USB Brick problem being fixed on the Desire, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Ive just popped it on my desire and it all seems good to be honest. Only thing is that my phone seems to have slowed a little since I put 2.2 on there. Starts off very quick then slows to a crawl.
