Can YOU max out every game?

All it needs is a new GPU and you have a PC almost as good as any really.

Yeah his quad is still a very good CPU. My dual core C2D E6400 on the other hand is really showing it's age not just in games but in video editing etc while even being overclocked as well.

When the time comes where the latest games are no longer playable I will probably upgrade everything. Until that time, my PC has still quite a bit of life left in it. ;)

Not every game that I max I would say is playable for me in terms of frame rate, but yes, I can just about max out every title out that I have played.

No, I've never been able to (at an acceptable framerate) on some of the games I play. My rig ([email protected], GTX280) simply doesn't cut it at 1680x1050 for games from 2007 onwards like Crysis and GTA4.

The good news is that I judge graphics on merit rather than whatever the developer has chosen to call the settings in the menu. For example 'medium' in Crysis looks a lot better than 'max' in many other games.

Yet to find a game that i can't run on maximum settings, I tend to upgrade every generation of processor (albeit i wait a while once they are released) and every two generations of graphics card, keeps things ticking over quite well :)

EDIT: actually not with GTA4, but then i don't think theres many computers that can? guess i'd need xfire/sli for that

No, struggle with Bad Company 2 and the highest settings on StarCraft 2. Not really bothered as much, as long as things look half decent. Depends on how well coded the game is really, such as Batman AA ran perfect on my machine at maximum settings and looked great. But GTA4 / Crysis I can barely get above medium before things go to pot.

Yes the only reason GTA4 and Crysis run worse than Batman: AA is they're badly coded...

I agree with that to be fair. Warhead runs vastly better than crysis for sod all reason. With GTA4 it's just the product of a very lazy port as you can't even enable AA in the game which is pretty crap for a newer game. On my desktop pc I can run GTA4 smoothly on the "max" settings but have to turn the view distance and shadow distance sliders down to around 40 otherwise its a pure slideshow.

i forgot about gta iv i play that with a mix of medium and high settings at 1920x1200 and it still stutters at some points.

Warhead didn't look quite as good imo and when you compare the console versions of GTA4 you'd have to run at 1280x720 max and with low \ medium details and shadows turned down or off. Also no AA is because of the lighting method it uses, you can't blame that on bad coding.

I agree with the warhead part but the PC version of GTA4 didn't give us a way of enabling AA when its such a massive thing now for the pc market. Some guy ended up modding the game himself (enbseries or something) by designing his own lightning method and fully enabling AA. Due to that, I still class it as pretty damn lazy coding.

I still really like the game though but its such a pain in the **** to get running nicely.

My samsung 22inch 1080p monitor is the best and worst upgrade I've ever bought due to the same reason lol.

I went from a 17inch tft where my 8800GT could play everything really well, even crysis then gave it over twice the amount of pixels to play with and had to upgrade my entire PC to handle it :(

You could have just stopped at "My Samsung 22inch 1080p monitor is the best and worst upgrade I've ever bought". LOL! :D

I've never heard of such a small 1080p monitor, did you pay extra for the step up from 720p to 1080p? I bet you wouldn't have noticed a blind bit of difference... but if you bought it at a steal then fair do's.

I've never heard of such a small 1080p monitor,

you can get 15" laptops with 1080p screens, or sticking to monitors 21.5" screens

I have an 18.5" laptop and I can play Company of Heroes, Medieval TW2 and Dragon Age maxed out. It can also play Eve Online maxed, but I reduce my grahics settings if joining a massive fleet blob of 4 ships (see what I did there, a dig at the game server lag).
