can you mix Ram?

hi, ive currently got 4mb ram want to have 8 in total just wondering if you can mix ram, do i simply buy the same as ive got, its says

ddr3 16mhz (9-9-9-24) its patriot memory

do i just look for the same as above ddr3 16mhz (9-9-9-24) and fit that?

Aiming for the same latency and speed is good practise, but not necessary. I've got a 4gb and a 8gb set with different latencies on my machine and it works just fine

ok so i find a 4gb 16mhz and (9-9-9-24) that should be ok then

You really want to make sure the speed and timings are the same, otherwise you would be handicapping the better memory.
