Can you mix thermal CPU paste?

Well that’s mildly alarming. Is your PC randomly shutting down?
It refuses to switch on sometimes, but then boots up into windows 7 just fine. I'm 50/50 on whether CPU is fried or it's the switch.
As soon as I took the cover with the switch in off it booted, but then nothing since so not sure if it's broken wire.

Could be a bad motherboard or a bad grounding with the chassis but it's hard to say.

Got it started every time and would leave it running for an hour on a screensaver, but didn't do anything. Ran smoothly. Would start up and turn off every time.
When it starts the CPU fan spins, stops, a few seconds later spins for a second or two, stops, then boots up into W7.
Wondering if it might be the XFX power supply.
I need to get it on the kitchen table and have a look.

Don't compromise on your paste. It does a really important job. Get some Isopropyl Alcohol to clean all the crap off and start fresh, It's as cheap as chips compared to your CPU
