can you overclock a laptop?

Your bios probably wouldn't let you, but often you can flash to a different bios which does. Risky procedure though! Notebookreview.com forums is a great place to find alternative bioses and if it's possible for your model, there should be a guide.

As mentioned, temps may well be an issue so it's not a good idea on the whole. I installed a different bios to my Vaio Z but that was so I could undervolt it as it was running too hot :).

Not with a stock BIOS. You may be able to flash an unlocked one, but I wouldn't really recommend it. You'd get little gain, masses of heat and greatly reduced battery life. As Varkanoid said, you'd be much better off upgrading the CPU.

I overclocked my netbook (atom processor) i got a good result but after a couple of weeks constant BSOD all the time backed off then ok for a while then more BSOD so went to stock and all is fine shame as it has the nvidia ion chip but all being killed by the lazy atom
