Okay,

I've heard that overclocking an HP laptop is hard, and I'll admit to being a bit of a noob here.

I have a OMEN by HP Laptop PC - 15-ax011na which I bought in late 2016 - it's great, was perfect for my price range.

I'm looking to edge the performance of the CPU up a bit, and wanted to know if anyone has a way to do it?

I tried the ''intel extreme performance tuning'' software, but it doesnt even give the option of upping the clock speed multipliers ...

any help? im laymans terms so i can understand?

Hi

This laptop has 6700HQ, which cannot be overclocked by default. Maybe unlocked BIOS can help, but OC will be very limited anyway, and not worth the hassle in my opinion.

Any idea how restricted? why not worth it? how do i find and install an unlocked bios?

May be limited to even 0.1% increase. Personally I could get unlocked BIOS for my MSI laptop (6700HQ, 970m) but not worth the hassle and risk.
No idea where to find unlocked BIOS. Look at HP forums.

Why do you want to overclock the 6700 CPU ? Its quite a fast capable CPU its more likely the GPU is not adequate ? My son has an MSI 6700 and GTX 960 (full fat) and he plays at 1080p okay. Problem you have is cooling anyway laptop cooling isnt designed for overclocking.
