Can you overclock this CPU -I3

That one I do not believe you can, that image is terribly edited and the person who did it needs to be shot in the foot.

Yea, the i3 2120 is a multiplier locked CPU.

Though with a P67 or Z68 motherboard you can do some limited overclocking (400Mhz or so).

It is still a really nice CPU for the price, though if you can afford the extra £38 - the i5 2400 quad core is a much faster chip in pretty much all applications.

Wouldn't that involve increasing the Base Clock by about 12%?

I know some have tweaked the Base Block but it's usually only a few percent.

Apologies, I got it wrong.

I was referring to "limited overclocking" which is available on some sandy bridge CPUs which allows you to increase the CPU multiplier by up to four steps (so a 400MHz overclock with the standard 100MHz BCLK). However, it seems like this is only available on i5 and i7 CPUs and not the i3. Hence overclocking just isn't an option on the i3 2120, unfortunately.

As you mention changing the BCLK isn't going to yield much extra speed and it is very risky as it can reduce the life of the chip (so says intel).

To OP only CPUs with the "K" at the end can only be overclocked on P67/Z68 boards.

Isn't there a 2120K coming out soon?
