Can you please spec me for £400?

it will still be ok. not having an extra fan isnt going to be the end of the world.

Id be more worried about the noise the stock AMD cooler makes.

Really sorry to bother you guys again. I'm at the part where I need to fit the CPU. I read that people usually use a thermal paste of some type but I cannot find any supplied with the parts. Is this something that I will require?

Yes you will need a small amount of thermal paste, arctic silver 5 or similar, put a small blob the size of a rice grain in the centre of the CPU heatspreader and you could spread it out with a credit card sized piece of plastic.

andy.

its on the heatsink supplied with the cpu. just remove the plastic cover

The AMD stock cooler should have some pre-applied, it's not great stuff but it'll be fine for running the chip at stock speeds.

Radeon 4850 can be had for £65 new and GeForce 250 £75. I don't think you'll find anything else that performs just as well at this budget, unless you're looking for a used gfx.
