my chip needs 1.5v and water cooling to do 5ghz

feel a bit cheesed off after spending loads of cash on water and cant run 5ghz

can i RMA it

if not i will probably have to sell and buy another one

TBH you should have researched before...water really doesn't do a whole lot for these chips. I have a 27 usd air cooler (CM Hyper 212+) and am clocked to 4.8GHz, 5GHz with 1 core.

Anyway you can return it under DSR legally.

No. Intel provide a product that will work error free at its stock speed. What they don't do is ensure a CPU can be overclocked like mad at a lower voltage than what you would like.

Sell it and buy another, preferably try find a proven clocker

Afraid not as it's not a fault that it won't clock.

If it does what Intel claim which is work at rated speeds (turbo and unturbo) then it would be classed as fit for purpose.

To be honest, not many of these chips will hit 5ghz at a reasonable voltage. I would guess 1.5v is about average. So you will probably end up swapping about 10 times before you are happy. Your expectations are far too high. Better off waiting for IB and seeing how that clocks.

My chip hits 5.2 Ghz at 1.54V and could just about hold a stable 4.9 at 1.47V

Yet it holds 4.5 at 1.33V very weird just can't get the balance right. I decided that since 4.5 is ridiculous and the temps I'm getting are good I'm happy to leave it there.

i will probably put my freezer 7 air cooler back on and run 4.5 again

i can run Intel burn test all day with that cheap air setup

cheers for the reply

This must have been asked a thousand times already, but I just don't remember.
Does overclock void warranty?

Technically it does but unless you've managed to cause some physical damage to the CPU they aren't going to know about it.
