Can you run a demo of anti-virus software without connecting to the internet?

following on from my previous post about winsock. my mate may have got a virus on his PC. Do you know if i could download a demo version onto my machine, save it to CD and then install and run it on his machine without connecting to the internet.?

it should work but you won't have the very latest virus definitions.

kaspersky (and probably all the others) let you download the latest definitions in a file
