I have a 80g classic that I put 99% of my music into, but thinking about getting a itouch soon because to make my commute less boring and catch up on my shows to watch (nicer screen, ipod screen makes my eyes hurt after a while) and also have a return flight to Hong Kong next month.

So can itunes have 2 profiles and it sync something like 10% muisc + some vidoes for itouch and then keep syncing 99% music for the ipod?

I think it's done via playlists.

For example, you could sync your Classic to your main library as normal and have the Touch take up songs/videos from within one playlist that you would manage.

Is it done auto switching? or do i have to select each playlist when I put in each ipod/itouch? I mean the itouch cannot hold 99% of my music hence i'll need to pick out the best ones for that.

Hold down command (alt) when opening iTunes to open up a different library.

Add all the music to each library and treat them as 2 different accounts, as it were.

That way, you never have to worry about sync issues :)

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by auto-switching.

You could have your main iTunes library as it is and sync your Classic up to that - as you would with any one iPod. It'll take all the stuff you have ticked without any bother.

For the Touch you would give it a separate playlist and could essentially drag all of your music/videos into this playlist (It doesn't duplicate the files, only the paths as far as I'm aware) - then in the settings of your Touch go into what it will feed from, select the one playlist and it should sync up to the ticked items in that.

I'm pretty sure thats the way around it. Hope that helps.

Or you could just do what he says...^ know it all. ;)

It'd be easy enough to have smart playlists, your point was equally valid ;)

yeah i have my ipod classic, iphone and my old ipod shuffle all hooked up to itunes with not much of a problem... you just need to manually mange your music.. each ipod has its own separate options :)

How do you go from one to the other then if you already have itunes open?

Thats what I do with my iPod and iPhone. Works fine.

I think I know what you mean now, was hard to picture it without sitting in front of my own pc at work, giving it a go now.
