Can you sell customised Wordpress sites?

Hello all,

Just a quick question. If I were to select Wordpress as the CMS for a freelance project can I still sell it? It would have bespoke graphics/template etc and wouldnt form part of the price, bar setup cost etc.

Of course, you don't charge for Wordpress itself, you charge for the customisation and setup, etc.

I think technically, Wordpress themes are covered under GNU (as Wordpress itself is) because they are a derived work and make calls and includes on Wordpress functions?

Either way, he's still fully able to charge for his time spent in customising the theme. All in the wording really.

Also, if selling wordpress themes was illegal, there would be a lot of sites getting shut down and web devs getting sued.

I don't think it's illegal... it's just frowned upon by the WP community.

As said, though, you can definitely charge for your time in developing something custom.
