I own a corsair hx750, and whilst it is utterly bang on in terms of supplying power but the fan on it is running a little too high for my noise preferences.

System is good in terms of cable management/ventilation so it isn't running anything like hot, its at the bottom of an antec 300, flipping it isn't ideal as I haven't cut out the bottom, but I am getting more and more temped to try it and see what happens as there is some clearance.

Just wondering, and I suspect I know the answer to this one, without voiding the warranty, is there any way to make it run quieter, and would flipping it in a well ventilated antec 300 with no cut out bottom be a bad idea?

short answer: no

you could try cutting a hole and making/buying some case feet (needs a couple of inches clearance) if it goes pear shaped, the mess will be covered by the PSU anyway, so you have nothing to lose!

Thanks fella.

Am still considering flipping it. It has an inch clearance right now, and it is always pretty darned cold. Problem is that it eats all the air my noctua intakes put in. I've seen a lot of people talk of doing it without a cut out, general consensus is to flip it, but cant help but wonder if this is being a tad overcautious.

generally, the "void warranty if seal is broken" is on one of the screws that hold the fan on, so its impossible to get to the fan wihtout voiding the warranty.
if warranty wasnt an issue, then it would simply be a case of sticking a resistor on the fan's 12v wire.

Yea, given the thing is guaranteed for 7 years, would be stupid to void it for a few decibels.

Flipping it is in the pipeline, tomorrow may well turn it over, and see how hot it gets after half an hour of everest and furmark running compared to it not flipped- I am in no way shape or form stressing it, so confident there will be no disasters.
