I don't like tablets and want something i can throw in my shoulder bag and carry around.

I realize you can get second hand stuff for like £100 but is there anyone actually making new "net books" with little screens, or are tablets all there is now?

11inch MacBook Air only an inch over your requirement which is neglible Nd a heck of. Lot better

I know you said you don't like tablets but dell outlet has Lattitude 10's for a good price. A lot of of these new tablets have keyboard attachments and have Atom's which means they run full windows.

Personally I've had a couple of netbooks (Eee 701D & 1000HA) and tablets with full windows at netbook pricing seems to be the future.

I would look at the T100 as above but there is a 11.6 inch Toshiba netbook/laptop which may suit more which also runs the baytrail chips. NB10t-102. I wouldnt get one pre-bay trail as this gen is much much more useable.

I have an Acer Aspire ONE AO531h. You can still get one new and the price has only dropped by a fiver since I bought it in 2009.

Runs XP, could possibly handle 7, but really quite slow and puny (but in a cute way) compared to the sort of home-rig beast I now use. Hard to believe my little Aspire was once my 'main PC'!!

I'd still take a Netbook design over a Tablet any day, but with a 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor, it's not going to be much more than a seriously overengineered memo pad in today's world. Even my Mum complains about it!!

Yes the Asus T100 is the closest modern thing to the old Netbooks.

But with the new quad core atoms, they now have acceptable performance.

Don't dismiss the touchscreen element its extremely useful even when in laptop mode.

I'd be putting Debian on it anyway, and its primary use would be note taking at school and remoting to my actual computer.

The aspire one keeps coming up when im looking for netbooks, and theyre about 50-100 on you know where. hmm this seems, so far to be the best option.
Not sure I do know where, but I'm guessing it is rainforesty or auctiony...

Either way, try and get the one with the 7-hour battery. They're wicked!!
IIRC, can only upgrade to max 2GB RAM as well, but still worth it.

Note also that the right side USB2 ports have a slight tendency to kark it after a few months from new, leaving you with just the one on the left.
