Hi Guys,

Can you still buy cards with a reference 6870 PCB or have they all been changed now?

I ask as I want to buy one now and a second one later, but want to have the option to watercool them and it seems the waterblocks are only availiable for reference.

Or is it ok to just use generic GPU blocks? If so where do you get the RAM heatsinks from?

Thanks in advance.

yes, you can

Shoulkd have some sort of cooling on there already with custom coolers

Thanks in advance.

coolingconfigurator.com :)

Thanks, are any of the cards on the OCuk site reference PCB?

The pictures I have seen of 6870s with the factory fitted cooler removed have just had bare RAM chips with no heatsink. I know aftermarket air coolers come with RAM heatsinks and you obviously dont need them if you are using full cover waterblocks, but what if you are using the generic GPU only blocks?

Then you'll need to cool them somehow ;)

Just go through the ones with non custom coolers and use coolingconfigurator to check

It seems all but the reference designs require VRAM heatsinks, however I have found some universal one for about a fiver.

The long and short of it is that i can go ahead and buy not reference card.
