Can you tell the difference?

Have a read of the stuff at Tweakguide - if your game is there they will have examples for you to peruse. Gives side by side shots and great explanations - should answer all your questions - personally I can't (8x vs 16x) , but that's me! - Medium to high it depends on the game.
 
I can just about notice a difference, but for me its really about finding the best performance/image quality ratio.
 
Yeah i can see a difference, textures seem to go blury a lot closer to you at 8x than they do at 16x, at 16x they stay sharp further into the distance.
 
ive got a 22" monitor and a 37" tv in my lounge side by side(the tv is further back)when i play assassins creed at 1920 x 1080 on my tv the game automatically disables aa,you cant notice anything on my tv but on my monitor you can see the jagged lines.i dont know if this is because the tv is further away or not but at 1920 x 1080 aa is really not needed but on my monitor at 1680 x 1050 it is
