Can you use carb cleaner to clean a MAF sensor

It'll be fine, i managed to set fire to one the other week and it still worked, a squirt of carb cleaner will be ok.

I've cleaned several with carb cleaner/IPA on a cotton wool bud and they've worked fine. They are quite delicate, but if you are just going to squirt some carb cleaner on it then there is little chance of damaging it IMO.

Definately allow it dry as BP says, powering it up with solvent on the element wouldn't be a good idea.

Always clean my MAF with carb cleaner. Just make sure it is bone dry when you put it back in and just be careful. Leave a good distance with the can and do not touch it with anything!

Thanks guys. Another quick on what about the throttle body? I've herd they have a protective layer on them to stop corrosion is it a bad idea to clean these?

Carb cleaner is great for throttle bodies, did the ones on the 300 years ago and the amount of crap that came out was amazing, I guess EGR and PCV systems do that. Problem is though, the crap from the right side throttle can run right down the plenum into the idle air valve on the back and bugger that up. Not saying this is something that will happen on other cars but it's something to be aware of.

sorry guys, just feel like a prat starting new threads in the cars forum as I know nothing about them!

Anyone any ideas please?
