Can you use tbe same cables?

if you buy same brand and same model number yeah
i think seasonic are one of the few
where they keep same pin outs throughout model numbers
as mentioned companies like corsair for example
they dont actually manufacture the psus
so if one was made by cwt then next time they chose
a different manufacturer for financial reasons etc
then you get different pin outs
unless youre totally positive theyre the same
its just safer to redo the cable management
even if it takes an hour

if in doubt email cablemods or use their configurator
theyre usually very quick to respond to emails even if you dont
end up buying their custom cables

i was thinking of buyer a 1000w or 1200w i have a 850w would that matter as well are the cables rated for higher wattage than mine or would it be ok?

It's nothing to do with wattage but everything to do with the pinouts on the psu side of the cables. One pin in the wrong place and you could end up with a very expensive disaster when you fry one or more of your components. Even the same brand of psu have different pinouts across their psu ranges and sometimes even in the same series of psu's. Many brands use several different third party's to build their psu's which can muddy the waters even further. Corsair is pretty clear when it comes to psu cables as they have a compatability guide that you can check. If in any doubt always use the cables that actually come with the psu. That way you aren't going to make a costly mistake just trying to save a little time doing cable management.

What make and model psu do you currently have and what make and model are you looking at replacing it with? If you already have a 850w psu what components do you have that need a 1000w psu?

You mean, buy a 1000 watt to replace a 850 watt PSU of the same brand/model and re-use the cables? That doesn't guarantee the cables are the same either I'm afraid, e.g. some PSUs have different OEMs even with a different wattage in the same line.

I'd be pretty surprised if you have a modern system that needs an upgrade on 850.

The wires in the cables themselves are probably the same gauge, they're chosen based on the expected power load of the connectors attached to them. A larger graphics card usually needs more connectors (and attached cables) to supply that power, rather than different wires in the PSU.

If you have a multimeter it would be advisable to check the pinout of your current cables and ensure that the new cables match them. If they don't it's easy enough to rewire the offending pins using a tool or staples.

Generally it depends if they manufacture their own PSUs. Seasonic for example does so it's usually interchangeable for them. Corsair on the other hand uses a mix of OEMs such as CWT, Great Wall, HEC and even Seasonic. You can't reuse the cables in this case unless you manage to find who the original OEM is for that particular model and if the new PSU model is also made by the same OEM. But then you'll also need to check if said OEM is still using the same pinout.

The Cablemod trick mentioned earlier is one quick way of checking.
