Can you view HDTV pictures thru VGA connectivity ??

As per subject. Hooking up my HTPC to my HDTV-ready LCD TV and wanna know if I can watch HDTV via a VGA cable ?

Yes, VGA supports resolutions far exceeding "HDTV" spec

Make sure you output at your TV's native resolution.

Ooo I didn't know this!... So I can connect up my Lappy, slap ffshow (or what ever its called!) on it and upscale my DVD's

I thought it had to be a DVI connection...

You don't need ffshow to upscale DVD's.

When you play a DVD your screen resolution doesn't change, does it?

He means up scaling the dvd resolution using ffdshow, it produces cleaner images than the basic image scaling you get in whatever player your using.

It only needs to be DVI or HDMI if it requires HDCP otherwise VGA is fine...if not the best.

there's nothing wrong with VGA, imo DVI offers no better picture quality.

ive got vga on my phillips plasma does that mean i can connect to hdtv?
