I have a cousin in the land of Canadia. Since ooh 5 weeks ago he's had a virus on MSN. His MSN will sign in and then a message window will pop up with a link to go to. I've never bothered with the link as it is pretty darned obvious the link is dodgy. Plus his account then signs him out.

Now I am fed up with my serene internet browsing being interrupted with this rubbish so I sent my cous a message on Facebook. He told me he is on a Mac laptop.

So seeing as I have 0% knowledge of Macs can any enlightened people suggest me some tips on how I can help cous Kyle rid himself of the shame of having a virus on a Mac.

It's not a virus on a mac :)

He'll have been sent one of those links by someone else. If you visit the link the link will tell you that if you enter your msn username and password it'll tell you who's blocking you. Once you've entered both then obviously they have your username and password and subsequently use it to spam all your contacts with the link (the actual link changes each time, but it's always the same sort of site).

To fix simply get him to change his password and tell him not to be so stupid as to type his username and password in to random websites again.

Brutal but true. Made me laugh anyway.

And yes, your cousin sounds like he needs a crash course in how to avoid being socially engineered before he gets a tempting offer from one of our Nigerian friends...

Yeah I've got to tell him this though!

He's just signed into MSN and no link so its him and perhaps we are sorted. However when I said "Hi" he said "brb" so got to wait a little bit longer.

Thinking about this a bit more, I don't suppose he's interested in helping me transfer some money from my Nigerian account to a Canadian charity? I'll pay him handsomely for the help. MSN addy in trust if he is.

May God smile upon you.
