Mrs Nelson is having some girly friends over for a thing next week and I selflesly offered to sort out some drinks & nibbles for them (I will get my reward in heaven, or possibly the bedroom :D).

They're going to get a batch of my dangerously good chocolate cupcakes but I'm at a loss for savoury ideas, it's not something I've ever dabbled with before beyond olives & crisps.

Suggestions please for light canapes, especially anything that can be made the night before. Your help will be much appreciated.

Slices of cherry tomatoes with a little slice of mozarella wrapped in cured ham. On cocktail sticks.

Failing that, cheddar and pineapple sticks. It is a classic and a taste sensation.

Mini Yorkshire puddings with a dollop of mash, a strip of rare roast beef and a splodge of horseradish cream.

Mini lamb and harrisa meatballs on skewers with a yoghurt and mint dip.

Panko breadcrumbed king prawns with a sweet chilli dipping sauce.

Buckwheat blinis with smoked salmon and wasabi mayonnaise.

Crostini with parmesan 'ice cream' and balsamic glaze sauce.

Gazpacho 'shots' with garlic bread dipper.

Mini crab cakes with a lime and chilli mayonnaise.

Marinated halloumi skewers with a lemon dipping sauce.
