Canary Black is streaming on Prime Video October 24.

A top CIA operative, Avery Graves, is blackmailed by terrorists into betraying her own country to save her kidnapped husband. Cut off from her team, she turns to her underworld contacts to survive and help locate the coveted intelligence that the kidnappers want. Betrayed at every turn, she must rely on her cutting-edge training and primitive fighting skills in a deadly race to deliver a ransom that could trigger a global crisis.

I don’t know why they keep making these generic, cookie cutter action movies with semi-menopausal females in the lead role

They are absolutely garbage for the most part, the only decent one of late was Atomic Blonde.

As much as I like seeing more of Kate Beckinsale - this is definitely a low budget/low quality "straight to DVD/VHS" level of film which can't really be expected to make any money at all (being streamed), so why/how do these type of films still keep getting made?

And the (totally inconsequential) twist you think is going to happen? Yeah, it does, and means nothing.
Absolutely a 5/10 movie, stick it on in the background while you're browsing the forums on your phone or something.

Wish they would stop producing this sub-par nonsense and instead just make fewer, better things. Prime video just seems to push out complete rubbish

This is 3/10 at best, I've seen better Steven Seagal films. Kate has so much filler in her face, looks like she's permanently stuck in the "Blue Steel" expression from Zoolander. Plus, she's so thin and fragile-looking that it's hard to believe she could take on anyone in hand-to-hand combat.
